Lastline’s Breach Detection Platform powers Barracuda’s Advanced Threat Detection subscription service. Barracuda’s Advanced Threat Detection (ATD) service is currently available in Barracuda NG Firewall model F200 and higher, on all virtual appliances and Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS public cloud offerings.
Barracuda’s NGFW product extract suspicious objects (ex. PDF or Word attachments) from the network after passing through traditional security layers to be analyzed for APTs, zero-day threats, and advanced malware. Objects are sent to a cluster of Lastline’s next-generation sandboxes (one component of the Lastline Breach Detection Platform) in Barracuda’s cloud for analysis. The sandbox implements full-system emulation, which provides the deepest visibility into malware behavior while simultaneously being the toughest one to evade.
As soon as the file is scanned and malicious file activity has been identified, a log event will be created and the administrator can contact the user to remediate the threat. In order to minimize this breakout, Barracuda NG Firewall provides an automatic User/IP/machine blacklisting feature that will automatically quarantine victims of advanced malware by blocking further network activities. Policy can also be be assigned on a per-file basis, forcing the user to wait until the file is emulated and not malicious or suspicious. Only safe files will be forwarded to the respective user.
